Spanning several months, a 1990 Range Rover was restored and built to spec matching the original Great Divide Expedition vehicles that were used for the now landmark adventure that criss-crossed the monumental Continental Divide several times on a 12-day, 1,200 mile adventure that traveled nearly 1,000 miles on unpaved and 4×4 trails, and ascended some of the tallest mountain peaks in North America. None of the original Range Rover GDE vehicles were ever sold to the public, but this replica will be auctioned on eBay, with proceeds going to Tread Lightly!, a non-profit organization that works with the National Forest Service educating the public on responsible off-roading techniques.
The eBay Giving Works auction for the Range Rover GDE replica will run from August 4 to 14, and the winning bidder will also receive an invitation to participate in the nine-day commemorative Great Divide Expedition planned for September 3 – 12, 2014.
